Position Summary:  As part of the CIGS process engineering team, support manufacturing goals and drive improvements in yield, device efficiency, and process stability

Essential Job Functions

    • Provide support for the overall manufacturing team for developing and maintaining technical specifications, maximizing efficiency of work methods, and complying with regulatory requirements
    • Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), process modifications, and tool maintenance procedures
    • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems in physical vapor deposition, co-evaporation and vacuum systems
    • Maintain and arrange activities with equipment vendors for spare parts, upgrades, and new tooling
    • Employ problem solving skills to analyze and improve the current process and tool conditions
    • Identify continuous improvement opportunities working with cross-functional teams; may organize and lead large improvement projects
  • Drive a culture of accountability and data-driven decision making processes
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Work with Environmental, Health and Safety personnel to ensure all standards are met in respect to x-ray equipment
  • Support the handling of hazardous waste material in accordance to federal, state and local regulations; individual will be trained (upon hire and annually) for the requirements of safe handling and proper disposal of any material deemed to be hazardous and the proper use of PPE for this activity



Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant technical field, e.g.  Engineering or Physics
    • At least five (5) years engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment supporting thin film deposition tool processes and improvements
    • Experience in a high-volume production environment and statistical process control
    • Knowledge of PVD, reactive sputtering, thermal co-evaporation, or CVD processes
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels in the organization; strong written communication skills
    • Effective time management and organizational skills to meet targeted deadlines and adapt to a fast-changing production environment
    • Self-motivated in learning best practices and applying them in new processes
    • Demonstrated abilities to solve diverse and complex problems through a combination of experimentation, characterization, and analysis.  Experience with DOE, JMP, SPC, root cause failure analysis/problem solving, and implementation of effective engineering solutions
    • Successful implementation of improvement projects using structured problem solving methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a collaborative team environment
  • Willing to work a flexible and demanding schedule in a continuous production environment, having multiple shift operations



Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in relevant technical field
    • Successful implementation of CIGS process improvement in a production environment
    • Semiconductor or photovoltaic manufacturing or other vacuum web coating experience
    • Experience in semiconductor thin film materials coating and high vacuum evaporation
    • Knowledge of solar cell or semiconductor device physics
    • Team lead or project management experience for equipment installations and qualifications
    • Experience with hardware design for equipment upgrades
    • Experience in metrology tools and analytical techniques is desirable – XRF, PL, CV, QE
  • Demonstrated skills in the application of Six Sigma and Lean principles
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin
